On 2nd December Audentes announced that they have made a deal with Astellas, a large Japanese based pharmaceutical with large international presence, to acquire the gene therapy and manufacturing programme. Audentes anticipate that they will become a subsidiary company of Astellas. Audentes confirmed to our patient organisation that this acquisition will not affect the current gene therapy programmes including AT132 gene therapy for x-linked myotubular myopathy, which are still very much ‘a priority’. It is hoped that the journey towards available treatments can be better strengthened by this much larger company’s resources and experience in helping new drugs to reach market authorisation and our patients.
