Having already completed a half marathon in support of the Myotubular Trust in May, our long-time supporter, Patrick, completed The Tour of Tameside, a 4 day running event that covers 32.6 miles, known as ‘The Full Tour’. Patrick ran every step in sweltering temperatures that he described as feeling like “135° celsius at times”!

Day 1 was ‘The X Trail’, a 10k run about which Patrick said, “I loved it. I absolutely loved it.”

Day 2 was ‘Hell on the Fell’, a very hilly 10k run which Patrick told us felt like being on a rollercoaster.

Day 3 was ‘Hero Half Marathon’ after which Patrick said, “In those temperatures it was a slog. At 11.7 miles my brain said, “Okay Patrick, you’ve had a lovely time. You thought you could do this but we should go home now.”

And day 4, with already tired legs, was ‘The Ron Hill 7-Mile’, the name of which speaks for itself.

At the end of the gruelling 4 days, Patrick said, “I keep saying I’m not a runner and I’m not, I’m a charity runner, it just turns out that I’m a better ‘not a runner’ than I think”.

We would actually describe Patrick as every bit a runner. One who can run in extreme heat, across challenging and often hilly routes, and with the kindest of hearts. It’s fair to say that we are in awe of Patrick and cannot thank him enough for his unending support and we wish him well in his marathon training!

Huge thanks also to Patrick’s family and friends for their support and sponsorship. We appreciate you all
