On Sunday 4th August, four very close friends – Tomas, Charlie, Jonathan and Matthew – completed the RideLondon 46 in memory of Tomas’s son, Oliver, who passed away shortly after his birth in 2017.
Tomas told us, “I’ve never done anything like this before and am a bit intimidated by the distance. But, for Oliver, I will persevere and make it to the finish line!”
And indeed they did and in a fantastic time too…. Tomas added “We did it! 46 miles in 2 hours 42 minutes, averaging 18 mph on our bikes riding through London! It was a truly amazing experience riding through London’s closed streets and tunnels and across its bridges with many thousands of cyclists, many of whom were raising money for great causes. It was great to see so many people out to support us – their cheering really helped us along, particularly up the nasty little hill in Wimbledon around mile 36!
Oliver was tucked in close for each of these 46 miles and, along with my amazing teammates Jonathan, Matthew and Charlie, kept me going to the finish line on the Mall.”
We are so grateful to Tomas, Charlie, Jonathan and Matthew for their tremendous support in Oliver’s memory, and for having been our first team to ride the Prudential 46. Massive congratulations to all, and thanks also to their very generous sponsors.
