Ten friends came together from across the UK to take on the challenge of running a total of 100km in memory of Robin, who had myotubular myopathy. Robin’s dad, Tom, was amongst the team of runners.
The group, most of whom hadn’t run since their school days, took part in an organised event – a 10km dash around Carsington Water. One of them, Ed, told us, “We decided to do a run as a tribute to Robin. We have all known Robin’s dad, Tom, since school – some of us from our first days of primary school and we wanted to raise money for the Myotubular Trust because we are so grateful for the support they provided to our friend and his family; we want other families to benefit from that essential help, too.
The run was more successful than expected, with some fantastic efforts. Richard Taylor-Elphick and Ed Herbert got to renew their competitive relationship from school, with Ed just pipping Rich on this occasion. Ed completed the race in 6th position in a time of 41 minutes and 52 seconds. Richard followed close behind in 7th position.
There were some fantastic individual times and the training that everyone put into the run was a real tribute to their love for Tom, Katy and Robin. Five runners finished with times in the top 25 out of 248 competitors!
The team told us, “We are so grateful for all of the donations we have received and we are delighted to have made a contribution to the Myotubular Trust’s work”.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to: Ed, Tom, Jon, Tom, Wil, Martyn, Jason, Max, Kit and Rich for their tremendous support, and congratulations too! And very many thanks also to their very generous friends, family and colleagues for their sponsorship.
