The 16th Jack Blunsdon Memorial Trophy Golf Day Raises its record amount for Myotubular Trust

For the 16^th year, our unending supporters, Dave and Karen, organised the annual golf tournament for ‘The Jack Blunsdon Memorial Trophy’ in memory of their beautiful son, Jack, who died on his first birthday.

Dave and Karen have organised numerous fundraising events over the years, including the annual golf days. The tournament this year alone raised a massive £5,100.

We simply cannot thank them enough for everything they have done, and continue to do, in Jack’s memory. Thanks also to their daughter, Jack’s sister, Daisy, who not only helped out on the day but who has subsequently, upon request, made a batch of brownies in return for a £100 donation.

The event, which was held this year at Gatton Manor Golf Course in Ockley, attracted 52 golfers who played in teams of four. Congratulations to the overall winners of this special trophy – Steve, Darren, Dean and Tom.

We are so grateful to the many golf clubs that supported this hugely successful event, including Wyeth Projects Services Ltd who sponsored this year’s prizes and trophies. We would also like to thank one of the players, Andrew McCarthy (head chef at The Kia Oval), who organised two hospitality tickets for the 3rd test between England and South Africa, which were auctioned. And of course, massive thanks to the anonymous donor for such an incredibly generous donation, and to each and every player on the day.

Dave said: “Each player donated £11 as part of their entrance fee to charity. Jack’s mum, Karen, and his sister, Daisy, were on a buggy supporting the lads and selling refreshments and homemade brownies – Daisy made five batches. The refreshments made £245 profit, which was well up on previous years.”

“I wrote to 14 different golf clubs, including Hillbarn Golf Club in Worthing, where I am a member, and asked them if they would be so kind as to donate a four-ball voucher which I could auction off. These are extremely popular and this year have helped raise another amazing amount of £1,685. All the golf clubs I wrote to, except one, contributed a voucher and many of these clubs have supported us for many years and are much appreciated.”

Dave added: “As a fantastic way to sign off, I received a message from one of my friends who played on the day, who said he thought Jack’s golf day was in aid of a fantastic charity and he wanted to help out but didn’t want to bid on one of the vouchers, so he donated £1,841 to bring the total raised to £5,000. It really is an incredible gesture.”
