A massive thank you to everybody in Form 9SJR at Emanuel School for raising so much for the Myotubular Trust during their recent Charity fortnight.
The forms report about their fundraising is below:
‘The final day of what was a fantastic Charity fortnight saw all members of 9SJR participating in the small but brilliantly ambitious 9SJR Garage Sale. The idea of selling second-hand goods and food in a ‘garage sale’ format was generated in a class debate where in a number of the group spoke of wanting to do some charitable work for the very first time.
During the class a member of the form had spoken of a personal link to Anne Lennox, the co-founder of the Myotubular Trust. The Trust is a charity which is endeavouring to find a cure for Myotubular myopathy, a rare yet devastating muscle wasting condition that affects babies at birth. It seemed like the perfect fundraising opportunity.
The lunch time sale was organised by the 9SJR students, who divided into marketing, advertising and finance teams. The lunch hour resulted in a fast paced, thoroughly enjoyable and hugely rewarding experience for all involved. It was an opportunity for the Year 9 students to do something extremely positive at a time when the culture of self has a tendency to take precedence over the care of others. £80 might not sound like a lot, but for Ben Laverick (9SJR), it was about doing the little things to create a ripple effect; “it was about getting involved and learning how to ‘do Charity’”.
Well done 9SJR – it was clearly a very successful event and we hope that you enjoyed it.
