When we put out the first invite last year for supporters to join our Vitality London 10K 2020 running team, Zaneta Laurence responded almost instantly. Zaneta was inspired to take on the challenge as her daughter had been in primary school with Zak, now 24, who has myotubular myopathy.

Zaneta started her training in January, mostly in her local gym, and she told us that while it took a lot of effort getting in shape, the date of 25th May looming on the calendar was a great motivator.

However, the threat of Covid-19 meant that the Vitality London run was postponed to October. With widespread uncertainty, Zaneta decided to go ahead on the original date anyway, with a solo 10K run. This way, social distancing would be no problem. And despite the heat, she completed her 10k run in a great time of 1 hour 16 minutes.

Zaneta told us, “The run was one thing, but a bigger conundrum was how to comply with the “2.6 Challenge” fundraising theme that had been instigated to fill the fundraising hole left by the cancellation of the London marathon. As it happens, my route took the shape of the digit 8, the sum of the digits 2 and 6! Convoluted, I know, but “it all adds up”!

Many congratulations, Zaneta, on an impressive run, and very many thanks for your continued support. Thanks also to your very generous sponsors.
