On Sunday 22nd May, Marco Gregotti took part in the Primera Swashbuckler Triathlon in memory of his family’s, and in particular his children’s, close friend Tom Lennox.
This event, which starts at 5:15am is most definitely not intended for the faint hearted. Marco started off by swimming 1.9km – two laps in the tidal Beaulieu River – with all entrants starting en masse. It was then time for a quick change and a 400m run as he switched to leg two – an 80km cycle which took in two laps in the southern area of the New Forest and which had to be completed within 4.5 hours of the race start.
As if that’s not enough, Marco then faced the final stage – a 22km run which was on the lanes and then river footpaths – all three stages had to be completed within a finishing time of 7.5 hours but Marco finished the challenge in 5 hours and 40 minutes!
Marco told us, “I had a great swim, good bike section and a very painful run where I had to work hard in convincing my legs to carry on. The target was “completion” and I am happy to have finished it.”
We cannot thank Marco enough for all that he continues to do for to support the Trust in Tom’s memory and for having raised such a phenomenal amount in sponsorship.
Congratulations and thank you Marco!
